At least two workers have died in a road accident in Cumilla’s Barura.

The accident occurred at 8:30pm on the Cumilla-Chandpur Highway in Bashpur on Saturday.

Police Superintendent Khairul Alam of Cumilla Region Highway Police said five to six other workers were also injured in the accident.

Mohammad Adel Akbar, chief of Laksam Highway Police Station, said that a pick-up truck carrying some workers was travelling to Cumilla’s Padua Bazar from Barura’s Bizra Bazar. It also carried construction machines and other equipment. An unidentified vehicle coming from the opposite direction hit the pick-up truck hard when it reached Bashpur, and some of the workers were tossed off the pick-up

Two of them died on the spot while those injured were taken to different hospitals after they were rescued.

In response to a question, OC Adel Akbar said: “The injured will be able to tell us what actually happened.”
