BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said there is no need to tell the party “stories” about state reforms.
Speaking at a discussion meeting of the Chattogram City Corporation on the occasion of International Mother Language Day on Friday afternoon, he said: "We don't need to tell the story of reforms. Leave this story among those who have learned new reforms and among yourselves."
The BNP leader said, “BNP’s 31-point reform agenda did not fall from the sky. It was formulated through extensive debate, discussions, and proposals.
“We formulated the 31 points through consensus. This agenda delivers the message of change for Bangladesh’s future.
“We are taking this message to every district in the country and are committed to implementing these reforms.”
He stressed that reform will not be dictated by an individual’s vision or a group’s mission but will be shaped by the will of the people.
“We must take our 31 points to the people. When they support these points and vote accordingly, we will implement them.”
“Those now advocating reforms—do they have public support? Who stands with them? Who authorised them to propose reforms? Yes, they have drafted proposals and formed commissions—fine. We will present them in the next parliament.
“You have worked hard, and we appreciate that,” he added.
Amir Khosru praised BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s approach to politics. “The path Tarique Rahman has shown us is one of mutual respect, tolerance, and empathy.
“The political culture in Bangladesh needs to change. Reforms alone are not enough—we must also focus on political reform. We must respect differing views, even if we disagree with them.”
He recalled that Tarique had been criticised in a newspaper through a cartoon, and later said: “This is exactly why we fought for freedom—so we could exercise this right. We fought against fascism for this independence.”
