The crescent moon signalling the start of Zil Hajj, the last month of the Islamic calendar, has been sighted in Saudi Arabia, setting the dates for this year’s Hajj and Eid-ul-Azha.
The main Hajj rituals will be held on Jun 5, with Eid-ul-Azha the following day.
According to reports by Khaleej Times and Gulf News, the moon was sighted on Tuesday evening, marking the end of the month of Zil Qad and the beginning of Zil Hajj from Wednesday.
Muslims observe Eid on the 10th day of Zil Hajj.
In Bangladesh, Eid is usually celebrated a day after it is observed in Saudi Arabia.
The official date will be announced after the local moon sighting committee meets on Wednesday, a media statement issued earlier by the Islamic Foundation said.
Alongside Saudi Arabia, Oman and Indonesia will celebrate Eid on Jun 6, while Malaysia and Brunei will observe it on Jun 7.
