The Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has described the upcoming discussion between BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus as “highly significant for Bangladesh’s democratic transition”.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at 9am local time on Friday at The Dorchester hotel on London’s Park Lane.
In light of the current political climate in Bangladesh and the upcoming elections, Shafiqul emphasised the importance of this engagement.
“It’s a very important meeting for Bangladesh and its political future. A date has been set for the election in April. This meeting is vital for the democratic transition,” he said.
“They will be discussing everything in the meeting.”
Highlighting the stature of the two individuals involved, Shafiqul noted that both hold pivotal leadership roles: one as the head of the interim government and the other as the leader of the country’s largest political party.
On preparations for the meeting, the press secretary said: “[On Thursday], an official from the BNP visited us as part of the preparations and had a discussion with us.
“We are expecting them to arrive by 9am [Friday].”
Shafiqul divulged that the meeting would start off as a tête-à-tête, and more members can join later if the two leaders decided to include them.
