Tarique seeks justice for 'authoritarians' and ‘collaborators’ while greeting on Eid-ul-Fitr

BNP has no programme on Eid day other than visiting Zia's grave since Khaleda Zia is in London

Tarique Rahman has extended his Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to all Bangladeshis.

He said the pledge of the occasion will be to establish the rule of law and justice in Bangladesh by bringing the "fugitive dictators" and their collaborators to justice.

The BNP acting chairman, who is in London, in his congratulatory message on Sunday, prayed for the happiness, peace, progress, and prosperity of the world’s Muslim Ummah, including Bangladesh.

Highlighting the new dimension to the happiness of Eid after the fall of fascism in the mass uprising, he said: “Many mothers are not happy even at such a time of joy and enthusiasm. A lot of families await a festive atmosphere.

“Because in the long decade and a half of fascism, the darkness of “Ayyam-e-Jahilliyah”– referring to the ‘age of ignorance’ prior to the arrival of the Prophet Muhammad SM–had come down to millions of families who lost their children and relatives due to the disappearance, murder, kidnapping, and oppression."

He said the families of the movement’s victims do not have the Eid festival’s joy and many people are having to spend this day with hope and despair by sitting near the hospitalised injured loved ones.

Tarique said, "Those who destroyed the people’s Eid festival bliss by running a fascist regime for one and a half decades, who took away their beloved children, and made countless parents childless, they must be tried in Bangladesh.

"By establishing the rule of law and justice in the country by bringing fugitive tyrants and their accomplices to justice at any cost, a message of comfort will be given to the bereaved families who have lost their relatives. This is our promise for this year."

He added, "Through the Eid-ul-Fitr festival, an important message reaches mankind that 'we are all for everyone’.

“This message transcends mental ugliness, injustice, and social inequities to inspire a deeper sense of brotherhood."

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also greeted people on the occasion.

BNP TO VISIT ZIA’S GRAVE AFTER EID PRAYERS

The BNP leaders will visit the grave of the party’s founder Ziaur Rahman following the Eid prayers.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed said the party's Standing Committee members, including Fakhrul, will pay tributes at the former president’s grave in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar at 11pm on Eid day.

However, BNP chief Khaleda Zia used to visit Zia’s grave every Eid.

The Standing Committee members, including the party secretary general, have followed this tradition since Khaleda went to jail in a graft case during the Awami League regime on Feb 8, 2018.

On the other hand, every year in the evening, BNP standing committee members used to meet the BNP chairperson at her Gulshan residence “Feroza”. Since she is in London, BNP has no other programme this time.
