Market condition ‘is not good', says BNP’s Salahuddin

BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed has said the price hike during the month of Ramadan has made the “people's pulse go up”.

At a discussion event at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Sunday, the Standing Committee member said: "The situation of the market is not good. If we only analyse political theories, and people do not have food and the purchasing power, then they will also criticise the government’s good work."

The event titled “Role of Politicians in Ensuring Human Rights” was organised by the “World Human Rights Organization of Bangladesh”.

Former Dhaka University law professor Borhan Uddin Khan presented the keynote paper.

Calling on the chief and other advisors, Salahuddin said: “Please pay attention to the poor so that the market situation is such that the daily commodities remain within their reach."

Noting the BNP’s demand to hold the parliamentary elections by this year after completing the "urgent" state reforms, he said: “Now I see many people say in the media that BNP is only talking about elections and the polls without reform.

"But we also want reforms and were the first to propose them."

He said, "Now if we are told that the election will be held after completing the reforms, then it remains uncertain."

“As the days go by, it seems that some nefarious tactics are being devised to prolong the path to democracy. We urge everyone to refrain from doing so."
