Denouncing several measures taken by Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy has said that the head of the interim government has brought the fundamentalists together to keep hold of his position.
Speaking at a protest on Sunday afternoon, he said those who engage in progressive leftist and fundamentalist politics “originate from the same principles”.
“But the chief advisor has divided them. To stay in power, he has brought together the fundamentalists,” he said.
“The country (United States) that you (Yunus) want to satisfy has given birth to and supported fundamentalists worldwide. They created Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, and then they ended him.”
He said, “The new crisis that we understand is not something we see as a crisis. Because when there’s no discord between our voices, when our tunes, notes, rhythms, and words are united—who has the strength to suppress us?
“Those of us here in this meeting, every one of us agrees and says the same thing… If we announce that we will take to the streets tomorrow, I believe he won’t be able to stay in office.”
He added, “Even so, we want him to succeed because Dr Yunus’s success means the success of our July-August movement.”
This discussion was organised at the Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah Hall of the National Press Club in Dhaka under the “Save the Country, Save the Port Movement” initiative protesting the alleged conspiracy to hand over the Chattogram Port’s New Mooring Container Terminal to foreigners.
