Nahid Islam, convenor of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has met Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus amid a spike in political chatter online.
The meeting took place at State Guest House Jamuna shortly after 7pm on Thursday and lasted just over 30 minutes, NCP Joint Organising Secretary Mushfiq Us Salehin confirmed.
He said Nahid visited Yunus to discuss “the ongoing political situation”, following a wave of rumours surrounding the chief advisor.
Soon after Nahid’s departure, two student advisors in the interim government—Mahfuj Alam and Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain—also met Yunus.
A member of the chief advisor’s press wing described the meetings as routine.
“They hold these meetings from time to time when work requires it,” he said.
Tensions have recently flared between the BNP and NCP leaders over the swearing-in of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain as the Dhaka South mayor.
The BNP has since called for the resignation of Mahfuj and Asif Mahmud from the interim cabinet.
National Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman has also come under criticism.
In response, the NCP has called for the removal of three other advisors, Asif Nazrul, Salehuddin Ahmed and Wahiduddin Mahmud, alleging pro-BNP alignment.
Nahid’s meeting with Yunus comes amid these growing disputes and increasing political uncertainty.
