The youth wing of the National Citizen Party (NCP), formed in the aftermath of the July Uprising, is set to formally launch on Friday under the name “Jatiya Juboshokti”.
NCP leader Nasiruddin Patwary said that the official inauguration will take place at 3pm on Shaheed Abrar Fahad Avenue, formerly Bangabandhu Avenue, in Gulistan.
The announcement came during a press conference at the NCP temporary office at Banglamotor on Tuesday.
Nasiruddin said the opportunity presented to Bangladesh will not be available for other countries for a century or two. He said that if Bangladesh wants to develop itself, it must rely on the nation’s youth, who make up more than 40 percent of the population.
Referring to the NCP’s founding in February and its mission to unite the youth who were central to the July Uprising, he added: “Democratic student forces played a leading role in the July Uprising. In the same spirit, Jatiya Juboshokti, an important wing of the NCP, is now being launched to help rebuild the country.”
He hopes that the youth will serve as a milestone in the reconstruction of Bangladesh.
He also added that a draft of the Juboshokti committee has already been prepared.
“The committee will include women, as well as members of the Buddhist, Christian, and Hindu communities. Young professionals from the private sector and students from both public and private universities will have significant representation.”
He explained that among all of NCP’s affiliate organisations, the youth wing will have the widest representation. It will focus on the private sector and private universities.
Tariqul Islam, the party’s joint youth coordinator, added: “It was the courage of the youth that made the July Uprising possible. Our youth wing will focus on areas where young people show the most promise.”
