Brickmakers stare at losses in Sitrang's wake

Brickmakers are confronting the prospect of heavy losses after Cyclone Sitrang ravaged fields across the country ahead of the manufacturing season. Typically, brick kilns begin operations before the advent of winter. The storm damaged countless brickbats left outside for sun-drying as well as furnaces.

Rows of brick fields can be seen at Keraniganj's Jajira. All furnaces light up at the start of winter. But the mood is different this year due to the devastation caused by Cyclone Sitrang. Photo: Mahmud Zaman Ovi
