Boat repairs underway amid fishing ban

With a fishing ban currently in effect at sea, fishermen are making use of the downtime in other ways. On Shah Porir Dwip’s Gholar Char in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf, many are busy repairing old trawlers or building new fishing boats. Once the ban is lifted, these vessels will head back to sea.

Large trawlers used for deep-sea fishing are typically 40 feet long and 15 feet wide, costing around Tk 1.5 to 2 million to construct. Smaller trawlers cost around Tk 1.2 million to build. Photo: Jasim Mahmud
