Preparations for Bangla New Year celebrations

Students of Dhaka University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, called Charukala, are preparing for Bangla New Year 1430 celebrations. The theme of their Mangal Shobhajatra, a festive procession with traditional props, is ‘Borisho Dhora Majhe Shantir Bari’ (Let the earth rain showers of peace), a line from a poem by Rabindranath Tagore.

Last year, the Mangal Shobhajatra procession started at the TSC and ended at Fuller Road amidst metro rail work. The parade's organisers, students of Dhaka University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, are planning to march a longer distance this time to celebrate the Bangla New Year. Photo: Mahmud Zaman Ovi
