Another patient infected with COVID-19 has died in Jashore.

He died at Jashore General Hospital's ICU at 12:30am on Thursday, said the hospital's Supervisor Hussein Shafayat.

He was identified with a single name as Yusuf, 45.

Another patient infected with the coronavirus had died at the hospital's ICU on Wednesday morning.

Supervisor Shafayat said that Yusuf had been admitted to the medicine ward on the third floor of the hospital with kidney issues on Jun 13.

He was transferred to the ICU the following day when his condition worsened. Yusuf's oxygen level began to fall and doctors advised a rapid antigen test.

At the advise of the doctors, Yusuf's family had him tested at a private hospital for the coronavirus on Wednesday afternoon. That night, the hospital administration sent the report of the positive COVID-19 test to the Jashore General Hospital.

Shafayat added that Yusuf died before doctors could begin treating him for the coronavirus.

The deaths at the hospital are the first from COVID-19 for nearly three years. The last time the district recorded a death from the disease was in mid-2022, according to the Civil Surgeon's Office.
