Another person has died due to dengue fever while 249 new patients have been hospitalised with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease across Bangladesh over the past 24 hours.
The number of patients hospitalised with the disease this year has risen to 5,988, with the tally of deaths at 30.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said the latest victim was under treatment at a hospital in the Dhaka South City Corporation area.
As of Sunday morning, the highest number of newly admitted patients was in the Barishal Division -- 135 people.
As many as 43 patients were hospitalised in the Dhaka city, nine in the rest of the division, 39 in the Chattogram Division, seven in the Mymensingh Division, eight in the Khulna Division, five in the Rajshahi Division, three in the Rangpur Division, and four in the Sylhet Division.
A total of 659 patients are currently undergoing treatment for dengue in hospitals across the country. Of them, 172 are hospitalised in the capital and 487 are outside Dhaka.
In 2024, a total of 101,214 patients were hospitalised due to dengue nationwide, with 575 fatalities reported.
This marks the third-highest number of hospitalisations due to dengue in the country’s history, while the death toll ranks as the second-highest.
The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and fatalities since 2000.
Since then, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations have been logged in 2023. That year also saw the most deaths with 1,705.
