The Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board has pushed back the Dahkil exam initially set for Apr 13 in line with the rescheduling carried out by the general education boards.

The Arabic First Paper exam will now be held a month later on May 13.

The revised schedule was posted on the Madrasah Board’s website on Sunday.

On Feb 19, the general education boards revised the timetable for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations. The revised schedule pushed back the Bangla Second Paper exam from Apr 13 to May 13.

The Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCP), an organisation of students from Bangladesh’s hill tribes, had demanded that the SSC exams scheduled for Apr 13 and Apr 15 be deferred for “Boisabi” – an important festival for the hill tribes.

The name “Boisabi” is derived from the names of three New Year festivals celebrated by three minority communities – the Chakmas’ “Boisu”, the Marmas’ “Sangrai”, and the Tripuras’ “Bihu”. The hill tribes celebrate “Boisabi” from Apr 12 to Apr 14 every year in keeping with their cultural and religious customs.

The Dakhil exams will kick off alongside the SSC examinations on Apr 10 with the Quran Majeed and Tajwid tests.

A total of 1,928,181 students are sitting for the SSC and equivalent examinations this year. Of them, 1,490,142 students will be taking tests under the nine general education boards.

A total of 294,726 students have signed up for the Madrasah Education Board exam, while 143,313 will sit for SSC (Vocational) and Dakhil (Vocational) examinations under the Technical Education Board.
