Education authorities will enforce a minimum 3ft spacing between candidates in exam halls, with at least two invigilators assigned to each room in this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations.

On Saturday, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka issued detailed guidelines for managing the exams, set to begin on Jun 26.

Centre supervisors have been instructed to ensure that seating arrangements maintain the required distance and that there are enough invigilators -- at least two for every room with one for every 20 students.

In a shift from previous years, schools and colleges serving as exam centres will be permitted to conduct classes in between exam sessions. Typically, such institutions have remained closed for regular classes during the entire exam period.

SM Kamal Uddin Hyder, controller of examinations for the board and convener of the Inter-Education Board Examination Committee, said: "These guidelines are issued every year before exams... We've reminded centre officials accordingly."

He added that exam centres must also comply with the health safety protocols issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), particularly in light of concerns over a new subvariant of the coronavirus recently reported in India and the potential for wider transmission.

The health directorate has urged precautionary measures, including frequent handwashing with soap, wearing masks to cover the nose and mouth, maintaining a 3ft distance from individuals infected with the virus, avoiding touching the face with unclean hands, and covering sneezes and coughs with a tissue, sleeve or elbow.

The board also sent out a letter on May 24 outlining 33 directives for centre administrators. These include allowing students into exam halls 30 minutes before the test kicks off.

Candidates arriving late may be permitted entry under special consideration, provided their roll number and other details are recorded in the centre’s register. This register must be submitted to the board at the end of the exam period.

The use of mobile phones is prohibited inside centres for everyone except those in charge of the exams, even so, it can only be a phone without a camera.

This year’s theoretical exams will be held from Jun 26-Aug 10, followed by practical exams from Aug 11-21.

The 2025 HSC and equivalent exams will be held following the revised syllabus of 2023, with full marks and full exam durations restored across all subjects.
