ECNEC approves 9 projects worth Tk 118.51bn

The interim government has approved nine development projects worth Tk 118.51 billion at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).

Of the total amount, Tk 8.47 billion will come from government funding while Tk 29.89 billion will be financed through project loans.

In addition, organisations will contribute Tk 8.16 billion from their own funds.

The approvals were granted during the ECNEC meeting held on Saturday, chaired by Chief Advisor and ECNEC Chairperson Muhammad Yunus, according to a statement from the public relations office of the planning advisor.

Typically, the planning advisor briefs the media on the approved projects after the chief advisor and others leave the meeting.

But, this time, Planning Advisor’s Office spokesperson Md Jasim Uddin announced on Friday that there would be no post-ECNEC briefing.

Two projects under the local government ministry received approval, including the “Urban Climate Resilient Infrastructure” project worth Tk 5.90 billion.

The “PRABRIDDHI: Local Economic Development (First Amendment)” project was also approved with a revised cost of Tk 726 million.

The education ministry had three projects approved, including the “Construction of Academic Buildings of Eight Government Polytechnic Institutes” woth Tk 4.51 billion and the “Capacity Enhancement of 15 Government Polytechnic Institutes” worth Tk 15.14 billion.

The religious affairs ministry’s “Mosque-based Children and Mass Education Program (Eighth Phase)” project worth Tk 46.46 billion was approved.

The expatriates’ welfare ministry’s “Recovery and Advancement of Informal Sector Employment (RAISE): Reintegration of Returning Migrants (First Amendment)” project was also approved, increasing the cost by Tk 910 million.

The two projects of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, include “Grid Power Evacuation System Development for West Zone Power Distribution Company” worth Tk 53.97 billion and “Power Transmission Strengthening and Integration of Renewable Energy” worth Tk 41.31 billion.

In addition, the ECNEC meeting approved a proposal to extend the timeline of the “Mymensingh Central Jail Reconstruction (First Amendment)” project.

The planning advisor informed the ECNEC members about the four projects already approved in the meeting, which are:

>>Establishment of dry processing industry in Cox's Bazar district (Second Amendment)

>>Strengthening the government's video conferencing platform (Second Amendment)

>>Construction of Bogura-Rangpur-Syedpur gas transmission pipeline (Second Amendment)

>> Construction of an elevated expressway from Lalkhan Bazar in Chattogram to Shah Amanat Airport (Second Amendment)
