The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has unveiled a 16-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, which will mark Bangladesh’s entry into the 2025–2027 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
Top-order batter Najmul Hossain Shanto will continue as Test captain for another year, having led the side since 2024.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz also retains the vice-captaincy, extending the leadership partnership that steered Bangladesh through the previous season.
The team is set to depart for Sri Lanka on Jun 13.
The first Test will take place in Galle starting Jun 17, while the second will begin in Colombo on Jun 25.
The selection reflects a mix of experienced campaigners and emerging talents, as Bangladesh looks to build a competitive side for the new WTC cycle.
The spotlight is on pacer Ebadot Hossain, who returns to the national fold after a two-year injury layoff. The inclusion of fresh faces like Mahidul Islam Bhuiyan and Nahid Rana points to the selectors’ intent to build long-term depth in the Test squad.
The Sri Lanka tour is expected to be a key early test for Shanto’s continued captaincy, as Bangladesh aim to make a strong start in its World Test Championship campaign.
