Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has returned home following his release from the hospital, where he stayed for four days after a stent procedure was carried out on a blockage in his heart.

On Friday, Doctors said the risks had reduced a lot but the opener would have to rest for a long time and follow medical guidance.

Tamim returned home from Evercare Hospital on Thursday afternoon.

He will have to return to the hospital on Saturday for some diagnosis and dental care. He would also have to remain in contact with his doctors at all times, even while staying at home.

The day after the surgery, Md Abu Jafor, the director general of the health directorate, had said it would take at least three months for Tamim to return to his usual activities. But as the body settled down after the surgery, he would be able to resume moving around at home.

On Thursday, doctors said Tamim was “doing very well” in his recovery from a heart attack following a stent procedure.

Dr Shahabuddin Talukder, a senior consultant of the hospital’s Cardiology Care Center, spoke about Tamim’s current physical and mental state.

Shahabuddin said 36-year-old Tamim had difficulty accepting such a massive heart attack at such a young age.

On that note, Tamim is undergoing counselling under a psychiatrist along with other treatments.

“We’ve involved a counsellor for his mental health. [The counsellor] will listen to his questions and his fears to ensure that he copes with the situation. Then the counsellor will provide directions accordingly.”

Tamim, the captain of Mohammedan Sporting Club, complained of sharp pains in his chest before the team took to the field in a match against Shinepukur Cricket Club at Savar’s BKSP No. 3 field on Mar 24.

Preparing to fly to the hospital, Tamim then suffered a massive heart attack and later doctors discovered a block in his heart and decided to fit a stent to restore blood flow.
