The Dhaka University committee formed to investigate the murder of Dhaka University student Shahriar Alam Shammo has submitted its report to the university administration.

A press release from the university’s Public Relations Office said on Monday morning that the convener of the investigation committee, Faculty of Arts Dean Dr Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, handed over the report to Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan at the vice chancellor’s residence.

Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed and the panel’s Member Secretary Assistant Proctor Sharmin Kabir were among those present.

The press release also said that the investigation report has been prepared in accordance with procedure. After reviewing the report, further steps will be taken according to the university's guidelines.

Shammo was stabbed at Suhrawardy Udyan around 11pm on May 13. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around midnight, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Shammo was a student of the 2018-19 academic year at the Institute of Education and Research of Dhaka University. He was also the literature and publication secretary of the Sir AF Rahman Hall unit of the BNP's student front. He hailed from Sirajganj’s Belkuchi.

On May 14, his older brother Shariful Alam filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station, accusing 10 to 12 people.

That same day Vice Chancellor Niaz formed a seven-member investigation committee to probe the incident. Later, Barrister Nurul Azim was added to the committee.

The other members of the committee are Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof Muhammad Ekramul Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof Taiabur Rahman, Provost of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall Prof Md Serajul Islam and Prof Md Abul Kalam Sarkar of the Department of Persian Language and Literature.

The police have so far arrested and remanded six suspects in the case.
