Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) spokesperson Masudur Rahman told bdnews24.com that a teenage boy rescued from the home told them that the man killed was his father 'Jamshed,' who hails from the northern district of Rajshahi's Boalia Upazila.
On Saturday night, police raided a suspected militant hideout at the capital's Azimpur neighbourhood.
A body was found inside the house near one of the entrances of the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) headquarters.
Three suspected female militants and five policemen were injured in the raid.
After the raid police said they suspect the man to be 'Abdul Karim', who had assisted the gunmen in the Jul 1 Gulshan cafe attack.
Police claim the body was found with its throat slit and that they suspect he killed himself to avoid arrest.
One of three females nabbed had been shot in the leg while the others also tried to commit suicide, a senior police officer had told reporters.
The law-enforcers also found three children inside the house -- a 12 to 13 years old boy, a 9 to 10 years old girl and another girl possibly just a year old.
DMP Deputy Commissioner Masudur said the boy told them the dead man was 'Jamshed', who had rented the house at Azimpur.
Bangladesh Police chief AKM Shahidul Hoque told the media on Saturday that the dead man's description matched with one of the suspects of the Gulshan cafe attack.
The Jul 1 attack on the upscale cafe left 22 people, including 17 foreign nationals and two police officers killed.
The cafe killers had stayed at a rented apartment in the Bashundhara Residential Area before the attack.
The apartment was rented by a man, who identified himself as 'Abdul Karim'.
Police suspect Karim and Jamshed are the same person.
Senior police officer Masudur said the elder girl, who has been rescued with two other minors on Saturday, is suspected to be the daughter of former army major Jahidul Islam.
The military officer, who had voluntarily retired, was killed on Sep 2 when police raided a suspected militant hideout in Dhaka's Mirpur.
Police said Jahid was the deputy of Gulshan attack 'plotter' Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury, who was also killed in an anti-militancy operation in a house in Narayanganj on Aug 27.
After Saturday's raid, IGP Hoque told the media they came to know after the Sep 2 raid that Jahid's wife and children along with two to three suspected militants are hiding somewhere in Azimpur.
"We have been looking for the hideout for quite some time and managed to trace them during a search operation today (Saturday)," said the police chief.
