A student has died after being struck by a train while filming another on the railway tracks at the capital’s Kuril Bishwa Road.

The deceased, Ishtiak Ahmed Rafidh, was an undergraduate student at Rajshahi Government College. He was visiting his aunt in Dhaka’s Khilkhet when the accident occurred.

At the time of the incident, Rafidh was accompanied by his cousin, Mustafizur Rahman, a 10th grader at Dhaka’s Kurmitola High School.

Speaking to a bdnews24.com reporter at the scene, Mustafizur said Rafidh was recording a video on his phone of a train travelling from Tongi towards Kamalapur. While doing so, he was hit by another train coming from Dhaka on the opposite track, and died on the spot.

“He told me to watch out in case another train came while he was filming. As he was recording, a train approached. I shouted to him to warn that a train was coming, but he didn’t hear me. Then he was caught under the train,” said Mustafizur.
