The Advisory Council has given both policy-level and final approval to the draft of the National Parliament Constituency Delimitation (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025.
The decision came during a meeting presided over by Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus at his Tejgaon office on Tuesday.
Speaking at the Foreign Service Academy following the meeting, Law Advisor Asif Nazrul said: “The Advisory Council has approved the Constituency Delimitation (Amendment) Ordinance 2025.
“Once gazetted, the Election Commission (EC) will be able to carry out its constitutional duty of redrawing electoral boundaries.”
He noted that under the previous “fascist” regime, constituencies were drawn “arbitrarily”, triggering objections from different political parties.
“Due to a complication in the existing law, the Election Commission had been unable to act. This amendment has been drafted in line with the commission’s proposal,” Nazrul said.
The same meeting also gave final clearance to changes in the Code of Civil Procedure (CPC).
The advisor explained that civil cases often dragged on for decades, and the overhaul introduced multiple time-saving reforms.
“Adjournments are no longer allowed. Earlier, lawyers would read the plaint aloud, which could take two to three years. That’s been removed,” he said.
According to him, submitting the written plaint will now be sufficient — there will be no need for an oral presentation.
Nazrul said, “Previously, a separate case had to be filed for execution after the verdict. That will no longer be required.
“The process of issuing summons has also been made much simpler. This law will play a key role in speeding up the disposal of civil cases,” he added.
The proposal for CPC reform had earlier received policy approval from the council on Apr 17.
