A man has reportedly died by suicide in Savar while on a video call with his wife.
A domestic dispute allegedly drove 45-year-old Khalilur Rahman to hang himself from a ceiling fan in his home in the municipality's Bank Colony on Monday night, according to police and relatives.
His body was recovered on Tuesday morning, said Md Jewel Miah, chief of Savar Model Police Station
Khalilur was a marketing director at a private hospital in Dhaka's Dhanmondi, commuting to his workplace from the rented flat in Savar.
His wife Khusbu Rahman said she went to her parents’ house in Dhamrai on Monday after a row with her husband. Later that night, Khalilur video-called her.
During the call, he wrapped a rope around his neck and took his own life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan, all while still on the video call. Khusbu said she then informed others about the incident.
After being notified, police broke down the door of the flat and recovered her husband’s hanging body, she added.
OC Jewel said that an unnatural death case has been filed at the police station. The body will be handed over to the family following legal procedures.
