Dhaka’s metro rail has resumed operations after a one-day holiday for Eid.

The first train on Tuesday left from Uttara North Station at 7:10am for Motijheel, while the first departure from Motijheel headed toward Uttara North at 7:30am.

Passenger numbers were relatively low in the early hours, but crowds gradually picked up as the day went on.

Sohel Mahmud, who boarded at Agargaon and got off at the Secretariat Station, said: “I took the first train this morning. It was a smooth and quick ride. Passenger turnout isn’t bad either. I’m spending the holiday out with my family.”

School student Naima Nasrin boarded from the Secretariat Station. “I’m going to my aunt’s house. I’m really enjoying the ride,” she said.

On Mar 29, the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) had announced via Facebook that metro rail service would be closed on Eid day.

They added that trains would run on the Ramadan schedule the day before Eid and return to the regular timetable the day after the holiday.
