Father arrested over 14-year-old child’s rape in Dhaka

A 14-year-old girl has allegedly been raped in Dhaka amid reports of rape incidents in Magura and South Keraniganj.

Police said the girl had alleged that she was raped by her father, a rickshaw puller, on Saturday night.

The incident occurred at a tin shed house in East Hajipara Bou Bazar of the capital’s Rampura.

Police arrested the accused, Anwarul Islam, and rescued the girl after the incident was reported at night.

Rampura Police Station Sub-Inspector Shafiqur Rahman says the girl has two younger siblings.

“Anwarul's wife died around a month ago, leaving three children. They used to live in a house where the incident took place at midnight."

The victim has been sent to the One-Stop Crisis Centre of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Police said the family was very poor. Though the rape victim has been sent to the hospital and her father to jail through the court, her two siblings, one aged six and another four-and-a-half, are now in police custody.

“Since their close relatives are poor, no one is willing to take responsibility for them now."
