Three people, including a man and his son, have been killed in a road accident involving a bus and a covered van in Cox’s Bazar’s Ramu Upazila.

At least 10 others were injured in the accident, which occurred around 8am on Monday on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway in the Upazila’s Rashidnagar area, according to Md Nasir Uddin, chief of Ramu Crossing Highway Police Station.

The dead have been identified as trader Habibullah, 55, his son Md Riad, 9, and Rimjhim Barua. Habibur and his son hailed from Cox’s Bazar’s Sadar Upazila, while Rimjhim was a native of Ramu’s East Rajarkul.

The injured are receiving treatment at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.

Citing witnesses, OC Nasir said: “A covered van from Dhaka crashed into a Chattogram-bound Purobi bus. The bus then overturned on the side of the road, killing three passengers on the spot.”

The deceased Habibullah’s cousin, Piemkhali union council member Gias Uddin, said: “Habibullah was a clothing trader in Ramu. His son studied at a madrasa in Chattogram. He was taking his son to the madrasa after the end of his Eid holidays.”

Md Tayebur Rahman, chief of Ramu Police Station, said the bodies have been sent to the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue and legal processing is underway.
