Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director General Akhtar Hossain has announced the launch of an investigation into the corruption allegations against the former assistant private secretary (APS) and personal officer (PO) to two government advisors.

Recently, allegations of corruption led to the dismissal of Moazzem Hossain, former APS to Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, and Tuhin Farabi, ex-PO to Health Advisor Nurjahan Begum.

On Sunday afternoon, Akhtar said: "We will take the necessary measures regarding the corruption allegations against the APS and PO of the two advisors under ACC laws and regulations.”

"We have been made aware of the allegations against them. The ACC’s intelligence unit is working on the matter at the moment. Progress in the matter will be shared with everyone soon."

Earlier in the morning, an organisation named “Jubo Odhikar Parishad”, or Youth Rights Council, demanded an inquiry into the allegations. They marched from the National Press Club to the ACC headquarters, where they submitted a memorandum.

On Apr 22, a notice was issued relieving Moazzem of his duties, though the advisor had ordered his dismissal on Apr 8.

Additionally, in an interview with Prothom Alo on Friday, Asif called on the ACC to investigate the allegations against his former APS Moazzem.

Prior to this, Tuhin, PO to the health advisor, was also dismissed following allegations of corruption.
