Four people have been killed and three others injured after a head-on collision between a truck and a microbus in Dinajpur's Birganj Upazila.
The incident occurred around 6am on Monday near the Upazila's Bablu Farm along the Dinajpur-Thakurgaon regional highway, according to Omar Farook, chief of Dinajpur's Doshmile Highway Police Station.
The dead have been identified as Md Zulfikar Ali, 40, an auditor at the Thakurgaon District Accounts Office, Md Delwar Hossain, 50, superintendent at the Dinajpur District Accounts Office, Md Imrul Hasan, 45, an auditor at the Pirganj Upazila Accounts Office in Thakurgaon, and Manik Hossain, 42, the driver of the microbus.
Meanwhile, Mizanur Rahman Sarkar, 50, Al Mamun, 40, and Nahid Hossain, 32, have been admitted to the 250-bed Thakurgaon General Hospital with injuries.
Citing witnesses, OC Omar said that seven people were travelling from Thakurgaon to Rangpur in a microbus for a training session. All of them were employees of the Thakurgaon District Accounts Office. On the way, the microbus collided head-on with a cement-laden truck coming from the opposite direction. Three people died on the spot.
Upon receiving the news, members of the Fire Service rushed to the scene, rescued the injured and transported them to Thakurgaon District Hospital, he added.
Dr Rakibul Alam Chayon of Thakurgaon General Hospital said that three people were brought in dead, and another died after being admitted. Three others are currently receiving treatment.
