President Mohammed Shahabuddin will offer his Eid prayer at the Bangabhaban mosque this year, according to Religion Advisor AFM Khalid Hossain.
Khalid disclosed the information following a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at the Islamic Foundation on Sunday.
Typically, the president participates in the central Eid congregation at the National Eidgah, where government policymakers, Supreme Court judges, political leaders, and citizens gather for prayers.
The announcement came as Bangladesh confirmed the sighting of the Shawwal moon, marking the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday.
Meanwhile, Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus will join the Eid congregation at the National Eidgah, his office confirmed.
Following the prayer, Yunus is scheduled to exchange Eid greetings with members of the public at his office in Tejgaon at 4pm.
Preparations for the primary congregation at the National Eidgah have been finalised, according to the Dhaka South City Corporation.
Officials anticipate a turnout of 35,000 worshippers for the 8:30am prayer.
During a site visit on Saturday morning, Dhaka South City Administrator Md Shahjahan Mia said: “We hope that his excellency the president and the honourable chief advisor will attend the Eid prayers at the National Eidgah Maidan.”
However, on Sunday, when questioned about the participation of state leaders, Khalid clarified: “The honourable chief advisor will offer Eid prayers at the National Eidgah. His excellency the president will offer prayers at Bangabhaban.”
