The body of a college student has been recovered from the Meghna River by a Fire Service diving team two and a half hours after he went missing while bathing "with his friends" Gazaria, Munshiganj.

The rescuers pulled out his body around 5:30pm on Thursday near the ferry terminal near Char Kishoreganj, according to Shafiqul Islam, deputy assistant director of Munshiganj Fire Service.

The deceased, Imam Hossain Noyon, 26, was the son of Zakir Hossain of Kurirpar village in Narayanganj. He was the youngest of three brothers and worked at a company named Asia Tech while studying.

The fire service quoted the family as saying that Noyon had gone for an outing with colleagues to Char Kishoreganj, near the Gazaria ferry terminal, which is often referred to as the "mini Cox’s Bazar."

Around noon, Noyon and five friends entered the river for a swim. He went missing shortly thereafter.

His friends called the national emergency helpline at 999 for help, and family members rushed to the scene upon receiving the news.
