Chattogram City was cleared of all waste from Eid-ul-Azha animal sacrifices by 6pm on Eid day, Mayor Shahadat Hossain has announced.
Speaking on Saturday, the mayor said approximately 10,000 tonnes of waste were removed from across the city. The effort involved a coordinated operation by the city’s cleaning department, beginning early in the morning.
“Starting from 8am, a total of 4,200 workers using 369 vehicles, including dump trucks, compactors, and pay loaders, were deployed to clean waste from sacrifice sites across neighbourhoods,” Shahadat said.
“All sites were thoroughly washed with water and bleaching powder. By 6pm, the city was fully cleared of sacrificial waste.”
The mayor praised the dedication of the cleaning staff and urged citizens to assist by reporting any overlooked waste to the city’s Dampara control room.
“Some areas in Chattogram traditionally carry out animal sacrifices in the afternoon. Special arrangements were made to promptly collect waste from those locations,” he said.
“We are also prepared for waste disposal on the second day of Eid, as many continue sacrifices then.”
He asked that residents report any remaining waste after 8pm to the control room via the following numbers:
02333389122, 02333389121, 01894-883005, 01811-803666, 01761-426371.
