Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus is set to travel to Japan on Tuesday for a four-day official visit.
During his visit, Japan and Bangladesh are likely to sign seven memoranda of understanding (MoU). Bangladesh will also seek $1 billion in budgetary support from Japan.
Acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddique shared the information at a press briefing on Monday.
He said, “We’ll seek $1 billion budgetary support from Japan.”
Siddique said the chief advisor is scheduled to leave Dhaka on Tuesday night and reach Tokyo the next day. There, he will meet Japan-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship League President Taro Aso.
Yunus will then take part in the Nikkei Forum in Tokyo on Wednesday. He will leave Tokyo for home on Saturday morning and reach at night via Singapore.
“The chief advisor will take part in a seminar on human resource development organised by the Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo on May 29. He will deliver a special speech there. The seminar will focus on how Bangladesh can send skilled workers to Japan in the near future.”
At least two of the seven MoUs likely to be signed during the chief advisor’s visit are related to manpower export, the acting foreign secretary said.
He said the MoUs will be signed by BMET and two Japanese companies.
“These MoUs will focus on skill development and Japanese language training.”
