Dhaka’s National Eidgah is fully prepared to host the main Eid-ul-Fitr congregation, accommodating up to 35,000 worshippers.

The main congregation will begin at 8:30am at the Supreme Court grounds under the supervision of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

However, if the weather turns inclement, the main prayer will be moved to Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at 9am.

Following an inspection of the Eidgah on Saturday morning, DSCC Administrator Md Shahjahan Mia briefed reporters about the preparations.

“All arrangements for the main Eid congregation at the National Eidgah have been completed,” he said.

“We hope that the president (Mohammed Shahabuddin) and the chief advisor (Muhammad Yunus) will attend the Eid prayers at the National Eidgah. This will make our Eid celebrations even more joyful.

“I urge all devout Muslims and Dhaka residents to join the congregation at this venue on Eid day,” he added.

35,000 WORSHIPPERS TO OFFER EID PRAYERS

Providing an overview of the preparations, Shahjahan Mia said: “DSCC is managing this event with great importance to ensure a smooth and comfortable prayer experience for all worshippers.”

“The Eidgah has been prepared to accommodate approximately 35,000 people. The VIP gallery can host around 250 worshippers,” he added.

Security at the Eidgah will be managed by police, Rapid Action Battalion, and other law-enforcing agencies, while the Special Security Force (SSF) will oversee the safety of VVIPs.

Shahjahan said worshippers do not need to bring prayer mats, as comfortable carpeting has been arranged.

DSCC has also ensured an adequate supply of drinking water, he said.

NATIONAL EIDGAH DECORATED FOR FESTIVITIES

A beautifully designed arch has been set up at the main entrance of the Eidgah, displaying the words: "O Mor Ramzaner Oi Rozar Sheshe Elo Khushir Eid. Eid Mubarak" (Oh, the joyous Eid has arrived after the end of the fasts of Ramadan. Eid Mubarak).

Ablution, or wudu, facilities have been arranged with newly installed water taps, and drinking water is readily available.

The Eidgah field is mostly covered with tarpaulin, while mats have been placed under the main canopy.

Ceiling fans, lights, and a sound system have also been installed.

A control room manned by police and RAB has been set up at the Eidgah, along with a healthcare centre.

A fire brigade team will remain stationed nearby.

According to the DSCC administrator, two medical teams will be on standby—one from the civil surgeon’s office and another arranged by DSCC.

DEDICATED ENTRY POINTS FOR WORSHIPPERS

Worshippers can enter the National Eidgah through two designated gates.

A separate entrance has been arranged via the Supreme Court premises for VVIPs.

There will also be a separate prayer area for women, with an exclusive entrance allocated for them.

Meanwhile, as in previous years, five separate Eid congregations will be held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

The first prayer session will be at 7am, followed by four more at 8am, 9am, 10am, and 10:45am.
