Injured protesters from the July Uprising and hospital staff members have reportedly been involved in a scuffle at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation, commonly known as Pangu Hospital, in Dhaka.

The incident occurred inside the hospital around 12pm on Monday, according to Ibn Mizan, deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Tejgaon Division.

"A clash broke out between the students and the hospital staff. Police are on-site to maintain order," he said.

A hospital staffer, asking to remain anonymous for safety reasons, revealed that tensions had been brewing for some time between hospital workers and the injured students.

The situation escalated following an incident on Sunday night, when an employee at the hospital’s blood bank named Rafique was allegedly assaulted.

In response, hospital workers staged a demonstration outside the hospital on Sunday, demanding action. However, they claim that during their protest, they were attacked.

bdnews24.com could not get a statement from any of the July Uprising participants regarding the incident.
