A Dhaka court has banned former Air Force chief Shaikh Abdul Hannan and three members of his family from travelling out of Bangladesh.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order on Monday after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a plea seeking the ban.

Those barred from travelling abroad include Hannan’s wife Tahmida Begum, son Shaikh Labib Hannan, and daughter Sanjida Akter.

ACC spokesperson Akhtarul Islam said Deputy Director Tanjir Hasib Sarkar submitted the application on behalf of the anti-graft agency.

According to the petition, the national anti-graft watchdog formed a team to investigate allegations against Hannan involving abuse of power, bribery, state fund mismanagement, recruitment scams, and illegally acquired assets.

The ACC said it had received information that Hannan and his family members were preparing to leave the country, prompting the request for a travel ban in the interest of a fair investigation.

In a separate order, the court blocked Mohammad Monjur Ahasan, chief scientific officer at the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC), and his wife Nargis Khanam from leaving the country.

ACC Assistant Director Anisur Rahman submitted the petition seeking the ban.

The commission is conducting an inquiry into allegations of illegal asset accumulation against the couple.

The ACC told the court it suspects they may attempt to flee the country, and their departure would obstruct a fair investigation.
