The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is set to organise an elaborate celebration for Eid-ul-Fitr.
The revelry will feature a “grand” congregation, a traditional Eid procession, and a two-day festival at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre, according to a media statement issued by the DNCC.
The Eid congregation will be held at 8:30am at the old trade fair grounds next to the conference centre, said DNCC CEO Abu Sayed Md Kamruzzaman.
This will be followed by a colourful procession at 9am.
“This is the first time that an initiative has been taken to organise an Eid joy festival in the Dhaka North City Corporation area,” said Kamruzzaman at the preparatory meeting of the Eid celebration on Tuesday.
“A large Eid congregation will be held at the old trade fair ground, and after that, the capital’s traditional Eid joy procession will begin.”
The procession will wind its way past the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre, traverse Agargaon, cross the Khamar Bari intersection, and conclude at the south plaza of Sangsad Bhaban on Manik Mia Avenue.
The spectacle will feature horse-drawn carriages, drum performances, and traditional musical displays, while participants will carry placards promoting the vision of a “fair Dhaka city”.
A brief cultural programme has also been planned at Manik Mia Avenue following the procession, where attendees will be offered traditional Eid delicacies, including “shemai” and sweets.
In addition to the procession, DNCC will host a two-day Eid fair on the conference centre premises, open to all from 9am to 5pm on Eid day and the day after.
Preparations for the congregation are already underway, Kamruzzaman said.
Pandals are being erected to accommodate 10,000 worshippers, with designated sections for women and provisions for ablution.
“Law-enforcing agencies are ready to ensure security,” he said.
