Two men have died after falling from the roof of a moving train in Brahmanbaria's Akhaura.
The incident occurred on Wednesday near the Mogra Railway Bridge when the Sylhet-bound Paharika Express was passing through the area, according to Sub-Inspector Shovon Nath of Akhaura Railway Police Station.
The victims were identified as 22-year-old Kaiyum Mia from Cumilla, and Md 25-year-old Tarek Mia from Brahmanbaria.
Another person was seriously injured and has been transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment. Police have yet to confirm his identity.
SI Shovon said several youths were standing on the roof of the Paharika Express as it approached the Mogra Railway Bridge en route to Sylhet from Chattogram.
"The three of them got entangled in a cable line hanging over the track, causing them to fall from the roof. Kaiyum died on the spot, and Tarek succumbed to his injuries on the way to Brahmanbaria,” he added.
Akhaura Railway Police Station chief Md Jasim Uddin said video footage of the incident shows several young men on the train roof taking selfies or recording videos on their phones when they are struck by a low-hanging cable and thrown off the train.
The bodies of the victims will be sent to the district hospital for autopsy, Jasim added.
