Members of the interim government's Advisory Council have held an unscheduled meeting amid mounting political uncertainty and speculation over Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus's possible resignation.
The meeting began at 12:20pm on Saturday at the NEC Conference Room in Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
The agenda of the meeting has not yet been disclosed.
Earlier in the day, an Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting took place in the same room from 11:00am to around 12:15pm. Ten projects were reportedly approved during the session.
Nineteen advisors are attending the Advisory Council meeting, and their flag-bearing vehicles are parked outside.
Typically, after an ECNEC meeting, the chief advisor and other advisors leave the premises one by one. Following that, the planning advisor holds a briefing on the approved projects.
On Friday night, Md Jasim Uddin, public relations officer at the planning advisor’s office, had said that the ECNEC briefing would take place after the session on Saturday.
Accordingly, the cabinet secretary, finance secretary, planning secretary, and other officials exited the venue after the meeting. Since then, the advisors have remained in the room for the ongoing unscheduled meeting.
