A Narayanganj court has handed down death penalties to three individuals in a case over the killing of a battery-run autorickshaw driver at Araihazar Upazila.

The Narayanganj District and Session Judge Md Abu Shamim Azad jailed another suspect for 10 years while acquitting another on Wednesday, said Public Prosecutor Abul Kalam Azad.

The court issued the sentences in the presence of the accused.

Those sentenced to death are Akter Hossain, 30, Md Badshah, 35, and Saiful Islam, 37. Asgar Ali was handed the jail term while Jahidul Islam was cleared of charges.

The victim, Zaman Hossain, 45, was from Bagadi village in Fatehpur union of the Upazila.

Prosecutor Azad said that on Mar 28, 2020, Zaman went missing after leaving his home in a battery-powered autorickshaw.

Later, on the morning of Mar 31, police found his body at Marwadi of Brahmandi union in the same Upazila.

He added that Zaman's brother, Zakir Hossain, had filed a murder case as the plaintiff in the incident.

The state lawyer said the court gave the verdict after nine people, including the investigation officer, testified in the case.
