Neighbours have pulled the bodies of two children from a pond in Lakshmipur’s Sadar Upazila on Thursday.

Charshahi Union Parishad Chairman Jahangir Hossain Raju said to journalists that the children, who were cousins, were found in the pond after hours of searching.

The 2-year olds were identified with single names as Khadija and Tafsir.

Bablu Patwari, an uncle of the deceased children, said: “A cow bought for sacrifice was tied up in the yard. The children were excited upon seeing the cow.

“Suddenly, they went missing. Despite extensive searching, they could not be found.

“At one point, their bodies were found floating in the water of a nearby pond. When they were rescued and taken to a hospital in Chandraganj, the doctor on duty declared them dead.”

Chandraganj Police Station chief Muhammad Faizul Azim said, “No one informed us about the incident. We will investigate it.”
