Police have arrested a total of 389 people on the eighth day of the ongoing nationwide crackdown Operation Devil Hunt and recovered a pipe gun and an axe.

The law-enforcing agencies also detained 751 more people across the country during regular operations in the last 24 hours, the Police Headquarters said in a statement on Sunday.

A total of 1,140 suspects were arrested alongside the recovery of a pipe gun and an axe, the statement added.

As many as 3,482 people have been apprehended in the operation so far, with 477 on the seventh day, 509 on the sixth day, 566 on the fifth day, and 591 on the fourth day.

The interim government initiated the operation following an attack on the home of former Liberation War affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque in Gazipur on Feb 7, during which several people were injured and property was damaged.

The special operation, targeting "instigators of instability", was launched by joint forces on Feb 8.

It involves the army, navy, air force, police, Border Guard Bangladesh, or BGB, Ansar, and Coast Guard personnel.
