Two people, including a 1971 Liberation War veteran, have been killed and four others injured in a knife attack in Mymensingh’s Bhaluka Upazila.
The incident occurred around 5pm on Tuesday in Pachgaon village, confirmed Bhaluka Model Police Station chief Humayun Kabir.
The dead have been identified as Hafeza Akhter, 52, and 70-year-old Freedom Fighter Gazi Ashraf Ali Ashu.
The injured are Abdus Samad, 30, Sakim, 35, Freedom Fighter Ali Shikder, 75, and Jebunnesa, 50. Two of them have been taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Following the incident, police detained a man, identified with a single name as Saidul, 40.
Citing locals, police said Hafeza had gone to cut grass near Saidul’s house in the afternoon, who allegedly snatched the scissors from her hand and stabbed her in the throat and chest, killing her on the spot.
Shortly after, Saidul reportedly attacked Ashraf with a shovel, striking him on the head. He was rushed to Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Saidul then allegedly attacked four more people from the area with a sharp weapon.
Humayun said Saidul was acting unusual recently, and the legal proceedings are under way.
