Grameenphone users across the country have faced disruptions in voice and internet services on Wednesday, prompting confusion and complaints on social media.
In some areas, customers could make calls but had no internet access. In others, both services were unavailable, according to posts shared on platforms.
Around 5:30pm, Grameenphone issued a statement saying: “Due to some technical glitches, our customers were unable to receive network services for some time. Our technical team has already resolved the problem. We sincerely apologise for this temporary disruption.”
The mobile operator has 84.9 million subscribers as of March, according to the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
Reports of outages poured in on Facebook group Mobile Operators Community, where users shared updates and screenshots of the network failure.
Around 5pm, a user named RM Raihan Mithila posted: “GP network is off.”
Imran Ali added, “3G connection has been on since morning. Internet is not working.”
Another user, Fuad Saikat, commented: “I’m driving in Brahmanbaria, no issue.”
Fazle Rabbi Sarkar wrote: “The network is turning off now and then. When I turn on data, there’s no signal.”
Md Belal Hossain said the issue had been resolved on his end: “I had this happen to me a while ago. It’s fixed now.”
Screenshots of phones showing “No Service” or “Emergency Calls Only” were widely circulated online during the disruption.
