Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has emphasised the government's firm stance against anti-state movements and gatherings and warned that those involved in such activities would be arrested.
After a meeting with the advisory council committee on law and order, he told reporters that law-enforcing agencies have stepped up efforts to improve law and order and prevent crime.
“Any criminals associated with anti-state movements and gatherings, as well as their instigators, will be arrested.”
He mentioned that the committee meeting focused on maintaining order during Independence Day and the Eid ul-Fitr holidays.
In order to do so, the home advisor has emphasised the importance of increased police surveillance, patrolling, and checkpoints, announcing that the police will carry out regular raids in residential hotels and slums to ensure safety and prevent disorder.
Jahangir added that comprehensive guidelines have been issued to ensure security during the Eid holidays.
“In addition to maintaining overall law and order during Eid, control rooms have been set up at the Police Headquarters, with support from other law-enforcing agencies, to regulate road and river traffic.”
These control rooms will maintain regular communication with the home ministry.
Addressing the issue of traffic during Eid travels, the home advisor said that all toll plazas have been instructed to work efficiently to prevent traffic congestion.
Moreover, long vehicles and those carrying construction materials have been barred from using highways for three days before and after Eid.
"For the seven days before and after Eid, law-enforcing agencies have been instructed not to stop vehicles on the roads unless there is specific prior intelligence," said the home advisor.
To ease the pressure on waterways, the home ministry has decided to suspend the movement of cargo vessels on rivers for five days before and after Eid.
Jahangir urged transporters not to carry excess passengers on roads, waterways, and railways.
