A case has been filed against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and 220 others for allegedly trying to murder a man in the capital’s Mohammadpur during the July Uprising.
The victim, 38-year-old Sohel Rana, filed the case at Mohammadpur Police Station on Wednesday.
On Friday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sefat Ullah ordered a report on the matter to be submitted by Jul 20.
Other accused individuals named in the case include Awami League General Secretary and former road transport minister Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former law minister Anisul Huq.
It also accuses former prime ministerial advisor Salman F Rahman, former ministers Hasanul Haq Inu, Rashed Khan Menon and Dipu Moni, singer and former MP Momtaz Begum, actress Shomi Kaiser, and former DMP Detective Branch chief Harun-or-Rashid.
According to the complaint, Sohel joined a protest march on Aug 5 around 2:30pm in front of Mayur Villa at the Mohammadpur three-road intersection, as part of the July Uprising.
It alleges that acting on instructions from the Hasina-led government, police and members of the Awami League and its affiliates launched an attack on the demonstrators.
Sohel was reportedly shot during the attack and underwent prolonged treatment in hospital.
In the case files, Sohel explained that the delay in filing the case was due to the extended time he spent at the hospital receiving medical care for his injuries.
