India's Border Security Force, or BSF, is reportedly holding the body of a Bangladeshi man, who was fatally shot near the border in Brahmanbaria's Kasba Upazila.

The shooting occurred on Friday at the Putia border in Bayek Union, according to Kasba Police Station chief Mohammad Abdul Kader.

The victim, identified as 32-year-old Al Amin, was the son of Sultan Mia from Putia village.

Witnesses said that around 7:30pm, BSF personnel opened fire on a group of Bangladeshis near the border. Al Amin was injured and later taken to an Indian hospital, where he reportedly died while receiving treatment.

“It is still unclear why the BSF opened fire at the border. The victim's body is currently in a BSF camp,” Bayek Union Parishad Chairman Md Billal Hossain said.

Kasba Upazila Executive Officer, or UNO, Samiul Islam added, “We have been informed that the BSF took an injured individual, who later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.”

To address the situation, a flag meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh, or BGB, and BSF is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

BGB-60 Battalion Commander Lt Col Jaber Bin Jabbar could not be reached for comment as he did not respond to multiple phone calls.
