A long tailback has formed on the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge Highway as a result of the Eid rush and multiple vehicles breaking down on the road linking to the bridge.
This situation occurred late Wednesday night. By Thursday morning, heavy traffic congestion on the road stretched for at least 24 kilometres, from the Jamuna Bridge Toll Plaza to the Rabna Bypass.
As a result, holidaymakers heading to the north to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha are facing severe hardship.
Bogura-bound Shah Fateh Ali's bus driver said, "We encountered the traffic jam from dawn at the Nagar Jalfai Bypass in Tangail. The heat is making it extremely difficult."
Ramzan Ali, a passenger on a Hanif Enterprise bus heading to Bogura, said: “I'm having to endure the hardship of the traffic jam with my young child. After midnight, we got stuck in traffic in Gazipur and Chandra. Now we’re facing another gridlock here in Tangail."
Md Sharif, chief of Elenga Highway Police Outpost, said the snarl-up began from the Jamuna Bridge Toll Plaza.
Reckless speeding and the breakdown of multiple vehicles on the Jamuna Bridge Link Road have caused the traffic congestion, he added.
The officer made assurances that police were working on the highway to resolve the tailback and expressed his hope that the situation would return to normal soon.
