The Public Service Commission, or PSC, has worked out a draft of fresh rules to verify the identities of candidates before appointments to government jobs.
The commission held a special meeting on Monday to reach decisions on several matters, PSC spokesman SM Matiur Rahman said on Tuesday.
The new draft has been named “Government Service (Pre-Certification of Candidates) Rules 2025”.
Matiur said: “The rules have been made candidate-friendly. So, we’re hoping that it will end the harassment of recommended candidates.”
“The draft rules clearly mention that a candidate can be deemed ineligible in some situations. A proposal to let ineligible candidates know why they are disqualified has been forwarded, including a scope for them to appeal for reconsideration,” he said.
“And the employment authority has been given control over re-investigations into disqualified candidates if it wants to pursue them.”
He continued: “It has been recommended that it be issued as a rule under the Government Service Act 2018 for government employees at all levels.”
“The draft will be sent to the Ministry of Public Administration for issuance and the ministry will take everything into account. It will be applicable for all police verification for public services, including the BCS.”
In the meeting, the PSC also decided on revising the 2023 policy for non-cadre recruitments, according to Matiur.
He said the decisions on Monday also included recruitment tests for railway deputy assistant engineers in three phases - preliminary, written and viva.
