Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has asked police to prepare in every way to hold the next general elections peacefully.

The instruction came in a statement from the Chief Advisor’s Office on Wednesday.

On Monday, Yunus attended a meeting with field-level police personnel, who apprised the head of the interim government about the issues they face.

The statement read: “The chief advisor, home advisor and others held a meeting on Wednesday about how these issues could be resolved.”

Yunus gave instructions to swiftly take action on some of these matters for the welfare of grassroots-level police personnel.

“The police have to take initiatives on preparing and doing what’s needed to hold a peaceful election,” Yunus was quoted as saying in the statement.

The issues marked for swift action are:

Consider lifting the current ceiling on risk allowance

Move to purchase 364 new pickup trucks and 140 prisoner vans for the police.

Release funds for ongoing police construction projects where work is less than 70 percent complete

Release funds for acquiring land for 65 police stations located in rented buildings

Consider interest-free loans for purchase of motorcycles for officers at the rank of sub-inspectors and assistant sub-inspector

Yunus said that an initiative should also be taken at the district level to improve the performance of police personnel who are achieving comparatively poorly on task-based results.
